Happy mail. Dovetailed London

Image
Just over a week ago post man dropped off the box for me… full of wonder and inspiration.  As you might already know I have rediscovered my love for sewing. I missed it actually and I found is so incredibly satisfying when garment comes together. And so relaxing quiet down time making things with my hands.  And as you also might know I love a happy mail in a form of subscription box.  I was totally influenced by listening to Uncut podcast for makers about the African wax print fabrics and that Ankara appreciation week was coming up it makes my Instagram feed so very colourful and happy… and £25 sounded really good for one meter and two neater fabric, matching thread some lovely sewing things and a sweet treat.   I opened it and a big smile appeared on my face. Just look at these prints! So bold bright and somehow life affirming so fabric and sewing g supplies made feel this way who knew! The clips I was thinking of getting anyway. Matching thread is always handy...

Getting back to sewing. What I learned

Image
When I was little my grand and my aunt taught me how to sew, embroider, crochet and knit. I was always drawing or glueing something, later on the same aunt was gifting me amazing craft books, so I can make my own jewellery and basics of macrame, for friendship bracelets.  Later in my teens I made my self skits and bags. But then I stopped. I moved to different country and never had my stash or spare money to get stuff... so it took a while to get back into making.  I was sewing here and there, eye masks mainly. But I haven’t made anything clothes wise in over 10 years... So I have made a trial run pinafore out of the old bed sheet I was going to buy a nicer fabric to made it but then I have discovered I have a bun in the oven!  And then I made Adam shorts... (fibre mood magazine do give them a Google’s and a purchase!) Turns out I m rubbish at cutting out! Also it didn’t help that’s I was reusing old jeans... then I didn’t transfer all the notches and markings but for the...

Sewing bee bug...

Image
Is bee even a bug? Oh no I already in the rumble...  When tv was showing great pottery throw down I was happily attending pottery classes in my local indi coffee shop, last session had to be postponed due to the obvious reasons... and well then summer was mark by amazing season of sewing bee.  Oh I love me some Great British Sewing Bee!  So I thought well I have time... so I dusted off my sewing machine and well started.  Made some sleeping masks. Actually I had to redo them since they turned out too chunky... then I made a pinafore from the old bed sheet. Like a test run. I haven’t been making stuff from the actual pattern in well over 15 years (well not since I was a teenager). I got the bug. I am planning a Christmas themed quilt. I never made a quilt but I found a nice and simple tutorial on YouTube. I also signed up for some fab makers, sewers channels there. And now trying to learn how to sew with stretch fabrics. Plan is to turn some old hubby’s tees into son’...

Cinema Obsession

Image
We all have hobbies, good or bad, usual and not so much. Apart from many things I love doing I’m huge fan of cinema… If you have been reading this blog then you would know that I do go to cinema a lot. Having cineworld helped not to leave me broke, especially since I have been to see Hobbit 4 times! But now in the new place, I was terribly disappointed to find out that the nearest Cinewolrd is in Bristol. Odeon is my new home… Now we have a budget for me to indulge in my love for cinema. Yay! Love my considerate hubby… There are so many films I really look forward to see…  Beautiful Creatures (either would love or hate it, but willing to give it a chance), 7th Son (Ben Barns!Yay!), movie 43.....  and my list goes on and on! Also I must be not alone in my cinema love; it’s a multi-million industry, dagh! So my friend Owen and me have decided to blog together about films. We live here . Enjoy! Hope the life would be soon as it w...
