Second hand Sept. 2021

Image
So September is here. If you in UK you know the smallish heatwave also is here… no cozy jumper weather yet. But second hand September is here the challenge set by oxfam, think second year running.  And I am in again. Originally I was going to post daily pictures and do like weekly reports but life gets in way and house still is the building site… but I have few photos so far.  I picked up this dress few years ago but it’s like a massive moo moo style thing but cinched in at the waist with a belt (much loved and much worn, not second hand but over 5 years old) and I think I look nice! Baby G wears second hand too, outfit was bought on vinted as someone unwanted baby gift and his big brother’s cardigan made by Grammie over 6 years ago.  (Skirt vintage Ebay find, jacket DKNY second hand shop in Russia, tee old fast fashion) (Dress. Wore it before pregnancy and during pregnancy. Top shop form charity shop) Now … I take gamble when sourcing second hand shoes on eBay. My feet a...

World is opening up

Image
Here is Wales are a bit behind to open up. Hospitality is still closed unless for take away but non essential shops are reopening. And it is exciting to see actual people...  And see that stupid long queue to Primark! It’s not great fast fashion brand, all the men made fabrics, poor factory worker conditions.... I know each to their own and such and I did shop in primark, but I am trying to make better choices... I tend to think before I shop (check out my posts on second hand September)  I don’t need new clothes. I am trying to get back into my pre pregnancy clothes. And they must be breast feeding friendly.... and I don’t really know what size I am and how long I would stay. Safe to say I need jeans but as one cannot try them ... it’s no go for me. I actually got some vintage dungarees on eBay, but they haven’t arrived yet.  After being in lockdown for so long I understand how much we all might want to get out and shop in person and see people.... I was dying to go to c...

Fashion. Making better choices

Image
I have this pair of sandals. They are very comfortable don’t hurt my feet, they didn’t coast a great deal.  They are by Scholl and I got them inexpensively from my local tkmaxx about 4 years ago. I am a mum to a very energetic child who has all my spare time. I walk places and it’s fair to say that these sandals are worn and worn time and time again. In summer I have the tan lines as is I still have them on.  See what I mean?  This year I am trying not to buys anything new. As much as I can but then again with a growing child...  So my shoes busted on the soles...  But luckily I know a guy. I mean there are Timpson dudes are outside and inside every supermarket but they are a big company and I like my small independent cobblers who you will really build  the relationship with. Well for £14 and a next day my sandals were even better than new I am ready for more adventures.  There is so much information around the fast fashion,...

Job hunting. Stepping away from hospitality

Image
As you know I have been looking for a job... I had few phone interviews and few in person. One of them actually went really well but the shifts patterns isn't fitting in with child care. And is what the trouble is. Child care is also expensive and I pretty much will be working for nursery but that's ok. Edgar will have more of social life with other kids and it would be nice for me to get out of the house and actually speak to grown ups. Even if I am totally shitting myself about how Egg will cope, how I would cope. I am most definitely not doing it for money I am doing it for sanity. Also I have only worked in hospitality industry and not many people seem to get that hotel reception is like super extensive admin experience and managing... like of everything. Every employers but the employment agencies. Well they are either in for the money or actually know their stuff... I actually spoke to one of my mates who is a manager in a busy coffee shop saying how wo...

motivation and career....

So what do you do? Do you love what you do? Does this fulfil you? .... I had a choice, stick with same girls I went to school with and be in the mainly females and study languages (at that point I truly had enough!) or go away to Switzerland to do degree in hospitality. Guess which one I chose... I was never encouraged to do things I wanted, nurtured... It is not the Russian way... I was to provide for my self as fast as I can and I did I loved my 1st placement for most of the time. I loved ladies I worked with, the customers. And they loved me back. But it was not to last. The hospitality industry is not an industry in UK. Even if you think about how much money is involved in it... Like entire Britain depends on it. Weatherspoons.... Wagamama... and many more.... But our waiters are students, people who don't care mainly.... but there are some that do and we need to appreciate a good service. I have been talking about this for a while now, some waiters are professionals ...
