Nothing new challenge

I saw the petition I don’t remember who started it but I know I have signed it, about giving Next (its a clothes, shoes and such) staff Boxing Day (26th December, still a bank holiday in UK) a day off rather then having a massive sale from 6am.  To me the idea after the relaxing Christmas Day and then getting up at stupid o’clock to shop seems rather ridiculous! So if the customers are through the door at 6am means the staff where are at what 4am. How much stuff do we need?!  I do like the idea of a sale and a bargain, who doesn’t!   But from last year I am trying to educate my self and think before I buy.... I am a big fan of Fashion Revolution, who are fighting for better transparency where our clothes come from.  Like my running trainees were the most expensive thing I purchased last year, they are made in Vietnam.  Are the workers who made them were paid fairly? Were their working conditions good and safe? We’re they treated nicely by their employers? Anothe...

Plastic-less

So there is no such thing as absolute zero waste, but as that meme-Inspo quote said “we don’t need 100 people doing zero waste perfectly we need 1000s people doing it imperfectly” so yeah I m with latter.  However after I came back from Russia I felt a bit in the “rut”about my waste and such. All the cereal bars we consume ....  But then I saw the ad in instagram about the reusable pods for my Nesspresso machine. I thought to my self, oh that’s great will save me money in pod and well all the packaging from the landfill or their recycling scheme, which is actually not clear where the pods go... and then I found my French press. Almost hit myself on the head with realisation that I don’t need that new shiny reusable pods, that would take space, money and who know what the packaging will be like! I still use my pods and things but I can tell you that I use less. And I didn’t have to spend more cash on the substitute for something I already had a substitute for. So not only reduc...

Christmas business

I guess we can all agree that sometimes Christmas hype and shopping starts waaaay to early. Oh I am not objecting to start the shopping early to spread the coast but the advertising is too pushy and shops being decked out way too early. And advertising to kids, I just think it’s immoral. Not everyone can afford the newest and super pricy toys. I just wish there would be some law against it, or about being ethical when advertising...  But some adverts are .. well full of Christmas spirit and are just so wonderful.  Remember the man on the moon or the alarm clock for the bear from John Lewis? Actually brought me to tears both of these adverts! And this year M&S with Paddington bear just made me so happy! We haven’t seen the second film yet but 1st film is like a cinematic hug and a favourite of my boy!  But then every single email or insta post was raging about Black Friday, or urge to “check out our Christmas advert” and/or to shop from independent shops a...

My favourite shops

I love clothes and fashion... I love stuff and things makes me happy. I used to have so many shoes.... and some of them I haven't even worn before... and ever.  I still have few shoes that I can't wear anymore since I had my son. My feet changed, just as much as my body did. I am still tiny size 2,5 to 3 (35-36 European) but now I also have wide feet.    Yeap my feet got fat! And some of my old shoes are no good anymore. Damn! So I still fit into my wedding shoes? Will have to check this later.  But as I got older I am trying to be more mindful of things I own. Sadly I would still get my things at cheap highstreet chains but I am getting less. I do not need tons of dresses and tees...  I came to realise that I wear only certain things. If before I would wear dressed and would never wear shorts, now I mainly wear shorts, jeans and tees ... best gear to chase the toddler around. Now I am more conscious about my stuff to go with one another rather j...

Card Holidays ....

Image
My hubby is a chef and I myself have been working in the industry for years so when some one says you might have to work the bank holidays, I don't even blink. I am used to it.  However it feels a bit different now...  Now that my job is being at home rearing a child.  This Sunday just gone it was the Mother's Day in U.K. It's a nice holiday I guess... all the family getting together to celebrate these important women.  It is also a very busy day at restaurants ... just like St Valentine's Day! It became overcrowded and commercial. I don't need this public displays of affection... also what is it like for people with no one to share these holidays with. But maybe I just being a grouch!  However... this happened:  I got this strange feeling that my two year old didn't out enough effort in... I don't know just felt down seeing all he families together enjoying the rare sunny day here in Wales.  But he made me a card... well nursery staff made me a card. ...
