Race day with husband

Image
I think I had few posts titled race day. Oh gosh I have done lots of these in sunny Welsh capital. Some were very good and others were a bit poo but as a rule I would come home happy, excited and with new bling for my medal hanger! It’s from Etsy of course! Cardiff 10k was the 1st “grown up” race I did. Before Cardiff 10k 2011 I was just running easy and relaxed race for life where all women claded in pink would walk, run, jog... well actually this is no more as my hubby did the inaugural race for life for everyone!  The excellent thing about Cardiff 10k is that it is super flat, usually very well organised... however were was one year when there was no water station. And it gets better and better!  Last time I did it in 2015 with husband who spend a lot of time on treadmill but not actually outside... and well he was slow and hated every minute of it.  When I took him for a run once I quickly realised that these long legs of his can be very fast and his stubbornness will...

Now only my hair doesn't hurt

In 2013 I completed my 1st ever hard obstical race , Survival of the Fittest. I had a blast.  And then this Sunday I did it again. With my friend Nora who in 2013 fell down next to me at the race and broke her leg. It was super hard for her to do this, mentally mainly.  But we did it together. We supported each other when it was needed mostly. She couldn't quiet get over one climby thingy I talked her throw it and when I was about to lie down on the floor and have a cry since 10k run turned out to be 12k run, she cheered me on and made me run.  I had a cold all week long prior to run. This is never good actually, anyone who ever run or did something physical. Last time I run after the cold it was when I wingged my way throw Birmingham half. The height of the stacks of bale scared me too. But I did them purely on will power, I can't jump high.   I enjoyed the event. Mainly because I had Nora with me to cheer me on and such. When I hi...

Race for life 2016

Image
I looked throw my emails and it was the 5th year me doing it by myself. In 2010 I did it with a coworker. It is rather special race for me since it is the one I have started running. I wasn't going to run it this year but one of the girls from the club was doing it and I though oh why not!  It was super busy. Super muggy. I have lost my bib prior to the race, fail! And Edgar being a truly annoying little monkey got up at dawn. Like at 4am!  But I have pulled my self together had a two hour nap before scoffing down food and making a run for the admin tent. Lucky they told me to come in early, by 10.20 they queue was so long I would have lost the will to anything!!  This year I was surprised to see a lot of young children participating. Mamas with their boys broods, and some of these boys got into the race for life spirit and wore lots of pink!  I saw and elderly lady who I can only describe and a Fairy Run Mother. She r...

Surprisingly good

So I did it! I run my 1st 10k this year and as you know from the privious post I was scared.  My little love, child that hates sleep, got up super early. This was not helpful! So I had way too much coffee and got a stitch. Now this is something I haven't had since my very 1st run back in 2010.  The weather was glorious but not good if you are running and trying to do the same time as you did last year, I was busy chasing the 60min pacer.  And on the start I was really worried about my legs. These things didn't want to work well really. Had this pain I have during the warm up. Not something to out you in a good mood for a race.  Then also this chappy started crying as I walked away to join the awesome ladies who run this yesterday. Like tears and that he is never going to see his mama again... Silly boy!  But as I was walking to the start I saw Ruth, from the Running club, who was super pumped and cheered me well up!  So I run! And I run! And splashes my self...

Pain vs PB

I am super lazy. Well after chasing after the little man and trying to keep him busy all I want to do is to chill... but this means I let my self relax and somethings change. Few days ago I went for a run... I have a 10K coming up and I realise that my fitness isn't great at the moment but I still want to do it as good as I did it last year. Oh women's running magazine you make a very good race! I spent all last year race day chasing my aim time pacer and for a good reason I did women's running series in 1hr and 47 milliseconds. It was pretty good for sleep deprived mother... I wonder how I will do with.. the wierd leg pain. There are few theories...  I piled on some heavy fat. Of course my mother said that. No one says things like that unless they have birthed you.  Or I need to work on my general fitness...  But then there is one more by my loving husband... Well he said that I am old.  Well today is the day. I am excited and look forward to it. But the offspr...

Cardiff 10k

Image
One of many things I was looking forward when we were moving back to Cardiff is the tons of races I could do. So back in January I have singed us both for Cardiff 10K that usually takes place around the 1st weekend of September. Yes I am that mad!  Baby was looked after by Owen who was also the watering station for Steve. Never seen anyone drink that much while running the man is like a .... well camel when they do store water in their humps, it is like there will be no liquid ever again.... Funny. But I guess we are different. This was my 3rd Cardiff 10K. 1st one I felt like I am going to die and 2nd one was good. Well this one was just great. However there was a lot of people running... Like a million! and the finishing like surface was... well so freaking lumpy it was hurting my feet. But over all I had a great race day! We both were really pleased about extra special medals they made for 30th anniversary of the race. So cool! Edgar really liked these. ...

Race DAY!!!

Image
My hubby hates race days... Normally this would mean I would jump out of bed insanely early to get ready. I would be pumped!!!! Aaaaa!!! And then I would drag him out of the house way too early he would complain and he will need to take before and after picture with my shiny new medal, and seconds later giving me a Sneakers to swallow whole since I would be starving! When we moved away from Cardiff I think I only did two races in total and due to circumstances Stephen missed them both. This time the logistics was more complicated, some one must watch little man. We were actually planning to do this race together. The only time we were meant to run together I fell down the stairs a day before my leg and hopping around for next few days. But we are still have Cardiff 10K coming up. We have great friends who love little Edgar and happily volunteers to baby sit. Big big thank you Dickie and Karly for your help!! So my race day was happening. I only singed up for the race on...

This Sunday

Image
Some Sundays are for chilling in your PJ... but this Sunday I am doing the my very 1st race in over a year! I am super pumped!!  It is a 5K run for Stroke association , and even if I am not fundraising I am however raising the awareness. I only tend to run for a good cause.  Speaking of good cause, I have actually agreed to walk the three peak challenge... This time it is actually close to home, since it is in support of Lupus charity and one of our friends is in need of more research on this disease to hopefully improve her life!  I am aiming at 30 min mark at this 5K. Not pushing my self too hard, even if I can run 5K with ease now. I do not think I am fit enough to beat my old PB on that one of 28mins. In fact I do not normally do 5K... I have literally signed up to do this on Monday and the race day is Sunday. Koodos to the organisers, got my race pack today!  I didn't actually know there was a run on. Only by chance that I saw the banner ...

Bupa run... My first half marathon done! And I got a T-shirt :)

Image
So it was a very implosive race entry... I walked pass the ad for Bupa Great Birmingham run way too many times and though "Oh why da hell not!"... But when I got the number through the post and all the bits and bobs I thought "Oh what have I done! Silly silly Daria" But actually it was not that bad after all. I did talk to the organizers, elite athletes and other crazy people who are running for fun. That's actually a perk working in hospitality industry... We all were very concerned about the weather... When I got up at 6am to have breakkie it was peeing it down. I though that I needed a wet suit to run in. But the sky cleared and the sun was shining... we were actually boiling. Well I was... also that dude who run in the Iron Man outfit. Yes, full on Iron Man... yes, that dude in red and yellow... The organisation was amazing, lots and lots of support, signs, water stations, even a shower, power station (jelly babies and vaseline) and a l...

Best end of holidays ever (or Survival of the Fittest Cardiff)

Image
Remember last year I went to see my friend Nora to climb the wall? Well I was so inspired by these awesome people  that I have singed up myself. The event was the next day after our holidays.... Now I can say it was the best end of holidays ever, but a day before I was terrified. ... It was so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also had a most amazing team of people supporting me and being my paparazzi. Once again big big thank you goes to Owen, Sarah and Mel.  But my dear hubby had to go home since he was working that day. Sad face. But I believe guys kept him updated. The race was divided into waves and I was in sensible wave 5 which started at 11am.... I did not think how high everything will be and how very short I actually am. That was until I say these stacks of hay. Oh dear me, it was hard, but I managed without a boost or anything. We climb over, jumped over and climbed under, slid on our bellies and went into the river... I fel...

A glorious MO!

Mo as in for mustache ... Movember is here and only 2 days till the next race!! Felling the buzz... Last year when I did dash in a tash I really thought it was the best race I have ever completed I do hope it will be the same this year:)  This year Hubby and Annalie are joining me.... Well, hubby did have a twisted ankle about a month ago, so he is not really confident... Annalie is overworked and feel that she won't be able to finish... I say run it's fun!!  So stay tuned for post race updates!! Super excited!!

So inspired... Survival of the fittest

Image
Well my next race is not until November... it will be the amazing dash in the tash!:) Note to self get the tash, or come up with awesome drawing of some! I'm very excited! Especially since hubby is doing it too... fingers crossed he will get the running bug.. But today I went to see what Survival of the Fittest is all about...  Also had a look at  men's health link On the way to the bay I came across this sing... well damn right runners! It was over 3000 people doing it today! How amazing! The Bay looked super busy! People everywhere, music, runners.... it was like a sea of orange. The official Tees are orange.  So I found the finish line with the Wall of Fame  This is almost the final obstacle. The last one is the wet one:) with photographers on the other end. The relive  on runners (or shall I say survivors) faces is unreal. Don't think some of them believed they would make it this far. I saw a man dancin...

Quick Note...

Cardiff 10K is tomorrow... feeling like I want to get it over with! But I'm sure this will be fine. Have so many supporters coming! Thank you in advance guys:)  In relation to the  Happy Place post  husband says that I will never get fitter since I drink wine like water... Well I am going to prove him wrong... and will stop with wine!  Lots of love xx

Few More Days Till Cardiff 10K

Image
Only few more days till the race. I'm working till then, well 8 days in the row really. Just like the last year. This time I am managing to train more, but I still remember how hard this race was last year and how in pain I was after it. Perhaps that's why I do not get super excited about this unlike the Race for Life races! But the training is going well I guess, I can just leave the house and but out running for an hour or so. Like last night I came home tired from work got dressed into running kit and off I went... Since the sun was out there where lots of people out running... I also saw a cute squirrel and a magpie eating the blackberry. Last one was like a picture, quiet surreal for some reason. Also the outdoor fitness guys almost run me over... There I was running listening to music enjoying my self next thing I see lots of people running from the side of me into my path! Oh dear!!  On the way home I realised that I must have been go...

Only 3 weeks till 10K

Image
Well I am being lazy and do not think I am training enough. Definitely not enough if to compare to Annalie... She is doing a real training, runs for miles with better timing each time. Her fiancée runs a running club so he supervises her workouts... and my husband works all the time and does not want to go for a run with me...  Last year the Cardiff 10K was super hard on me. I was stressed at work and actually didn't have any energy for anything. I did not pace well and got a stitch on the 3rd K... it was terrible! My knees were killing... and there were a lot of smelly men running next to you :)  Well this was after the race....  Next day I could barely move...  However this year I do know what I am up against... Horrible race with the hill at the end! But I am looking forward to it. I will not let this race to beat me! Besides I have so much space on this  Yeah I finally got a cool ...

1st race of the year

Image
Well I was supposed to do the 1st race in March.. depression got the best of me and I  didn't go...  Very ashamed of my self.... But the Race of Life made me remember how much I love running!! My mother and my good friend Dessy were running with me... We had a blast!!  We travelled to Bridgend to do this 5K... and we arrived to the sea of pink! Mother never seen anything like that before, neither did Dessy. They got super excited! There is something about the races that gets you all tingly! One of very few places when I really enjoy being surrounded by other women is the Race for Life. There is no bitchiness, no competition just girl power! Mum's English isn't great she s still learning... She said when she was running she was reading the back sings of other girls and it made her almost cry... "We could run for memory of you Gran.... "  Usually my lovely Hubby waits for me at the finish line... and takes the picture "after the rac...
